Helene has been at sea for 18 years, as a deck officer and captain. Alongside the highest Master Mariner qualifications, she holds a Master degree in Naval Architecture and maintains regular refresher courses in industry safety training.
She has experience presenting safety management matters to high-net-worth owners and senior management, and gaining their support in implementing the ISM code. Her day-to-day work covers determining how a safety management system complies with ISM requirements, testing how effectively it runs on board and within the company, promoting the safe practices recommended by maritime industry organisations, and gathering and analysing reports on hazardous situations to apply the right corrective action. She has developed and implemented a new safety management system for privately owned passenger ships, and built professional relationships with Flag Administrations, Classification Societies, Ship Agents and Port Authorities — a network that lets her discuss sensitive technical or operational issues with a clear understanding of every party's interests.
